Welcome to SPORTY GIRL BOOKS. At SPORTY GIRL, we want to give all girls the chance to love, watch, play, read, and write about any sport that interests them. We look forward to the day when the words, "You play like a girl," is the biggest compliment anyone can receive.

Play Ball!

Welcome to Sporty Girl Books. In our first month we will be discussing our favorite sporty girl reads and posting interviews with some sporty girl book authors. We will also be having a great giveaway for those who follow our blog and spread the word about our site. You can see the contest widget on the sidebar.

June is the perfect month for us to get started because June 23 is the anniversary of Title IX. Go to Faces of Title IX for some wonderful stories and pictures about all the opportunities Title IX opened for girls and women. Our contest will end on the end of that day.

It's been great to hear from many of you about your interest in this blog. Please continue posting your ideas for content, add to our book lists, and add your own stories. And don't forget to follow us!

  2. What a terrific idea for a blog. I myself am not a sporty girl. I'm kinda lazy. :) I quit all organized sports by 8th grade, but I like to watch. Looking back now, I wish I could've tried hockey as a kid--but they didn't have it for girls. Now they do, and that's very cool.

My children must've gotten their sporty genes from their father, since they are both active. So far my 6 yr old daughter has done gymnastics, dance, and soccer and I'll keep encouraging her to try whatever she wants. I asked her if she wanted to try hockey, but I think she's kinda wimpy in the cold, like me.

Good luck with the official launch! I look forward to seeing what you guys do.

    1. Thanks Suzi! I'm glad you're excited about this site. I'm impressed your 6 yo has done some many sports already. Maybe one day you'll get on that ice. I've wanted to try that too (and figure skating, never could decide between the two:D )

  3. We are all waiting for next week. Looking forward for posts here about Girls' Soccer. Personally, I would like to see an interview with a girl playing soccer and the books about girls' soccer that she read and what impact on her.

  5. Congratulations on your launch! What a FANTASTIC idea! As a mom of three daughters who play sports (and love the sports they play), I'm so excited for this blog. I also have a *very* sporty son, and have long been shocked by the inequities in my town between boys' and girls' sports, in terms of support and funding, etc -- despite Title IX. I look forward to hearing about issues relating to that as well. Am spreading the word about your blog! Yay! Best of luck!
